Our Sustainability Aims

As most of us now know, the world’s energy and material resources are limited and carbon emissions must be reduced. At Serento we aim to help cut the use of resources and carbon emissions, by reducing the need for the production of large numbers of certain goods. Our aim is to do this by making it unnecessary to own the things that we don’t use on a daily or weekly basis.

For example, an equipment hire business advertises a chainsaw on Serento. Rather than buy a new chainsaw, 30 people book a time and rent a single saw. As well as helping those people save money, and generating more rental business, we've just reduced the need, energy and resources to produce more chainsaws. When you consider all the other products and services we advertise, the benefits to everyone are substantial.

Service businesses also do better from this approach because they spread their resources, such as tools, over a large number of customers. For example, if Jim mows 10 customers’ lawns every week, there is little need for each of his customers to go out and buy a new lawn mower. If we can help Jim get bookings for 20 lawns a week, we’re all better off.

We aim to promote sustainability through the online service we provide, but also in our day-to-day operation. Our offices use electricity from 100% renewable sources with Pure Energy 100 and the emissions from our business vehicles are 100% offset by planting trees through Greenfleet.
